Paris-based photographer Alex Huanfa Cheng was born in a small, rural village in the province of Hubei in central China. His artistic work is extraordinary, discovering beauty in eccentricity and revealing the disjunction between human activity and China’s landscapes. Drawing it out in his framing of an alignment of shadows, an incongruous colour, a gesture, an expression, a contradiction - Alex has a particular eye for the fantastic that punctures the fabric of the real.
